Finding good information

Published by Adam | Filed under Information

(RaisingX.com) Taking a collage of information from various sites proved to be the most effective, but was extremely time consuming. Most information, especially concerning development, was tied to a product, making it questionable. While we have tried many of these products and services, and many are great, it still leaves a new parent leery.

We did use many of the product review sites extensively, but had to fill in many of the ‘other’ details to make them more helpful. For example, take car seats and breast pumps. Two things most people go from no knowledge of to intimately involved with in a matter of months.

For car seats, we read many reviews comparing crash test data, rebuttals of crash data, size dimensions, price, materials etc, but many of these ratings were similar between seats and didn’t help to make a final decision. So we found ourselves filling in the rest by hitting the stores touching the seats, feel the cushion, decide if you need the three layer head rest or is two enough. You get the picture. While certainly safety was the #1 factor, even things like, how will it look in my car came into play. Safety obviously first but style doesn’t have to be completely sacrificed. These details are hard to find.

Same scenario for breast pumps. We found good information comparing specs but some of the other areas were hard to find out there and this can be a fairly expensive purchase. Comparing speed, cleaning ability, portability etc, was all available. Unlike car seats though, trying on a breast pump in the store is frowned upon, so we ended up making a few purchases before finding the right balance between comfort, speed, cleaning, discretion (interesting on campus). This was just another information struggle we had.
